Quality patient care at Valley View also involves keeping patient information confidential. Your privacy is a priority. All hospital staff, from our physicians to billing clerks, are dedicated to protecting our patients' privacy. 

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) mandated specific regulations that govern privacy standards for health care information. HIPAA also specifies the purposes for which information may and may not be released without authorization from the patient. Please review the Notice of Privacy Practices for more information.

Your Medical Record

Your medical record is the physical property of the healthcare practitioner or facility who compiles it. Providers of care must keep records to document the services they render. They follow a number of safeguards to maintain confidentiality. 

If a patient is a competent adult, only the patient may consent to the release of the records. If the patient is deceased, a personal representative appointed by the probate court may authorize release. If no personal representative exists, the patient's next of kin may authorize release.
