Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

ICU is used by the hospital's most seriously ill and critical care patients. Their needs are special, and so is the staff of licensed professionals that take care of them. All ICU nurses are certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support. The majority of nurses in ICU are registered nurses, the highest level of licensure available.

Visiting Hours:

Due to the nature of your loved one's illness or injury, rest and a  quiet environment are very important factors in their recovery process. Please help us in providing your loved one with the best care possible by following the following policies:

  • Visiting hours are as follows: 9:00 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.; 4:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.; and 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

  • Children ten (10) yeas old and older may visit.

  • No more than two (2) visitors are allowed in a room at one time.

  • Visiting is restricted only to members of the patient's family or significant others.

  • Before entering a patient's room, please check at the nursing station if the door is closed, if the curtain is drawn, or if there is a sign at the door directing you to do so.

For more information about Visitor Guidelines and Patient Rights, please phone 580/421-6133 or e-mail valleyview@vvrh.com.

Visitor Guidelines:

  • It is best to limit visits to 15 _ 20 minutes at a time.

  • Since flowers, candy and other gifts cannot be permitted in the ICU, it is best to have them sent to the patient's home or wait until the patient has been transferred to a general floor.

  • If an emergency occurs in the ICU involving any patients, that patient's right to confidentiality must be maintained. If you are asked to leave the unit during your visit, please do so immediately and wait in the nearby waiting lounge.

  • The nursing staff or the physician may ask you to step out of the patient's room to administer medical or personal care, or because in their judgment, the patient needs rest. Please respond promptly to this request and assist us in providing quality care for your patient.

  • Before entering a patient's room, please check at the nursing station if the door is closed, if the curtain is drawn, or if there is a sign at the door directing you to do so.

Telephone Calls:

  • Patient rooms do not have telephones. Therefore, we ask that you use the pay phones near the waiting area to place your calls, and the telephones in the ICU waiting room to receive your calls.

  • Incoming calls will be directed to the telephone in the ICU waiting room or you may direct them to the pay phones. (The telephones at the nursing station are for physician and nursing activities only.)

  • Please note the following telephone numbers: Pay phone numbers are 580/332-9897 and 332-9898. The ICU waiting room number is 580/421-6163.
