 Laboratory

Valley View's Laboratory houses five divisions of service: Microbiology, Chemistry, Hematology, Histology and a Blood Bank.

Valley View's Blood Bank is one of only 30 in Oklahoma accredited by the American Association of Blood Banks. There are only 2,000 other AABB facilities in the nation. Valley View Regional Hospital was one of the first hospitals in rural Oklahoma to provide leukodepleted blood products to all patients, not just those at high risk. Leukocyte, or white blood cell, reduced products are those that have undergone a process of pre-filtration to decrease their number of white blood cells. White blood cells act as reservoirs for viruses and other infectious elements. The end result of this process, or leukodepletion, is a safer blood supply.

Four of the hospital's 16 laboratory technologists are certified as "specialists" in their field. This designation is held by only 2,000 other medical technologists in the U.S. Of the 175 phlebotomists registered with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists in Oklahoma, nine are employed at Valley View.
