RNs Represent 49% of Nursing Staff
When downsizing hospital staff and replacing certified personnel with less costly, non-certified employees are the norm elsewhere, Valley View has held strong to its commitment toward optimum patient care with more registered nurses on staff now than ever before. In fact, 49% of our nursing staff are registered nurses, the highest level of licensure available. The nursing staff, as a whole, make up almost 45% of the hospital's total employee base.
Valley View's Competency Training Second to None
In order to be in top form and ready to tackle your medical emergency, Valley View's nurses undergo competency training, a series of on-going inservices and workshops designed to improve skills and knowledge. "Clinical Educators" are also present in every nursing unit. These educators not only provide direct patient care, but are also responsible for the education of their immediate staff and ensure all competency testing is carried out.
Performance Improvement is a Continuous Process
For Valley View nursing and non-nursing staff, performance improvement is a continuous process that involves a team approach to identifying needs and solving potential problems. "Do the right thing and do it well," is a philosophy that's adopted by every hospital employee, regardless of role or job position.
VVRH is One of Few Hospitals in Oklahoma to Incorporate Nursing Informatics
Nursing Informatics is a relatively new specialty among nursing practices that targets the way nurses and hospital administration use data, information and knowledge to make decisions and deliver patient care. Valley View's Nursing Informatics department is headed up by a registered nurse to ensure that the "nursing perspective" is involved in the development of clinical data, and/or computer/information systems that are used to enhance patient care. The role of nursing informatics will become increasingly important in the future as hospitals nationwide adopt a paperless patient record.
