We consider you a partner in your child's health care. That's why we make every effort to keep you informed, comfortable and an active participant in your child's treatment plan.
About the Unit
Valley View's Pediatrics unit is cheerfully decorated and features a glassed-in playroom, so nurses and parents can keep a watchful eye on their patients at all times.
A separate treatment room is available that is used for blood work or other procedures that may be somewhat painful. This allows the child's hospital room to be a "safe haven" from such events.
About the Staff
The Pediatric unit sports a caring and competent staff. All nurses are certified in the American Academy of Pediatrics Neonatal Resuscitation Program or neonatal advanced life support. The unit's RNs are also certified in the American Academy of Pediatrics PALS program, or pediatric advanced life support.
The Pediatric Nurse Manager is a PALS instructor and is certified in the Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course. She is also an instrumental part of the hospital's Infant/Child Security Task Force.

Visiting Policy
-
We strongly encourage one parent to stay with a child at all times. This can be exhausting, so a switch-off system is recommended.
-
Up to two people may visit a sick child between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., unless a doctor's orders restricts visitation.
-
Visitors under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Visiting children should also wear clean clothing; this guards against the spread of bacteria they may have picked up at school. If a visitor is ill or disorderly, the nursing staff will ask him to leave, as ordered by the physician. Sorry, visiting children of any age may not spend the night under any circumstance.
For Your Convenience
-
Lazy-Boy "Cat-Napper" Sleeper Chairs, the best available, are provided in your room for the parent staying overnight.
-
A complimentary food tray (three times a day) is provided to the parent staying with the patient.
-
A telephone is provided for you in your child's room. If you wish to call long distance, you can dial the operator and tell her how you wish to pay for the call. If you need to check on your child's condition while you are away, please call 580/421-1271. A nurse will be happy to provide a report.
