Human communication is essential to learning, working and social interaction. Unfortunately for some, the ability to communicate has been altered by a hearing or speech disorder. In Valley View's Speech Therapy department, evaluations and treatment options are provided to patients who have a speech, language or swallowing difficulty caused by various medical conditions such as stroke, Parkinson's Disease, Cerebral Palsy and other neurological disorders. Other patients include those with laryngeal cancer and children with speech-language delays.
Modified Barium Swallowing Function Studies are also provided, with a doctor's order, to accurately treat patients with swallowing disorders. This informative x-ray study is offered to in-patients, out-patients, home health care, and nursing home patients who reside within the hospital's 10-county service area, as well as those referred by metro hospitals.
The Valley View Speech Therapy department houses two of only five clinicians certified in providing the Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT) in Oklahoma. LSVT is the first effective treatment established for treating voice and speech disorders in individuals with Parkinson's Disease and other neurological disorders. For more information about LSVT, visit www.lsvt.org or phone 1-888-606-LSVT (5788).
Hearing screenings are provided to public school students, at-risk employees and other patients (upon a physician's request).
