Selecting a
physician is one of the most important decisions you'll make in your
lifetime. The best time to select a doctor is when you're feeling well and
can carefully evaluate the doctor that best suits your needs.
Make
a list of your preferences and decide what you are looking for. Does it
matter if the doctor is male or female, older or younger, specialized or
in general practice? Are they board certified or board eligible? Do their
office hours fit your schedule? Are there any other languages spoken other
than English? Do they accept your insurance?
Go
ahead and get referrals from friends and family members, but remember,
their needs may be different than your own. Once you've identified several
physicians within the area, call their office and talk to a staff member.
